Training Overview

Lesson 1: Participants learn an overview of basic electrical components for electricity, formulas used, and calculating service demand as applicable to consumer HVAC systems.

Lesson 2: Participants learn about GHP common names, history, basic principle of GHP operation, system components and HVAC system operating cost.

Lesson 3: Provides the requirements needed and the design standards required when sizing geothermal heat pumps.

Lesson 4: Focuses on why to promote geothermal heat pumps to consumers and their benefits to electric utilities as a top renewable energy choice.

Lesson 5: Participants learn about marketing to candidates, application opportunities, incentive rewards and the importance of communications to grow the local market.

Lesson 6: Offers a discussion regarding a Geothermal Heat Pump Rebate Program, key program documentation requirements and the importance of verifying proper equipment design, installation, and related Design Standards.

Lesson 7: This lesson plan is optional, participants learn about thermal energy, heat transfer, ventilation, construction materials, construction design and the benefit of Smart Controls.

IGSHPA Training

Certified GeoExchange Designer

Designing GSHP systems will keep you competitive in a market forced to deal with rising energy costs.

The CGD course is worth 2 CEUs.

Certified GeoExchange Designer (CGD) Course

Designing GSHP systems will keep you competitive in a market forced to deal with rising energy costs and resource depletion by offering customers a low-maintenance, economical and green alternative for their space conditioning needs.  Federal and state tax incentives for GSHPs are providing additional demand and popularity for the systems, creating even more opportunities for home owners and commercial buildings.

As an engineer or architectural designer, you have specific questions about GSHP systems that you want answered. IGSHPA has designed a program to offer advanced training towards certification as a Certified GeoExchange Designer (CGD). From an introduction to the technology to a complete review of the design process, participants learn the specific information they need to know.

You have two options available for the CGD course – our distance learning option and our CGD Plus course. The distance learning option gives you the convenience of learning when you have the time; while the CGD Plus course provides three days of concentrated learning under the guidance of an experienced GSHP Professional.
